Parents and carers are a child’s first and most enduring educators. You know your child better than anyone, and the experiences you share with us help us provide care and learning that reflect their individual needs, interests and development.
We value open, honest communication and aim to build a warm and trusting relationship with every family. By working together, we can create consistency between home and nursery and have a positive impact on each child’s happiness, wellbeing and progress.
Every child is allocated a key person who will develop a close, caring relationship with them and act as the main point of contact for their family.
The key person helps each child settle into nursery, become familiar with their new surroundings and develop a sense of security and belonging. They take time to understand the child’s routines, preferences, interests and individual needs, helping to make the transition between home and nursery as smooth as possible.
Although every member of our team contributes to your child’s care, their key person takes particular responsibility for observing their development, celebrating their achievements and planning suitable next steps in their learning.
We understand how important it is for families to know about their child’s day. We provide regular updates through the Famly app, including:
Information about meals and snacks
Care and routine updates, where appropriate
End-of-day messages
Details of activities and experiences enjoyed in the room
Photographs, where parental permission has been provided
Observations and updates within your child’s online learning journey
Daily conversations at arrival and collection also give parents and practitioners an opportunity to share important information, ask questions and discuss how the child has been feeling.
Our practitioners observe children as they play, explore and interact with others. These observations help us understand each child’s interests, recognise their progress and plan experiences that support the next stage of their development.
Your child’s achievements are recorded in their learning journey, creating a valuable picture of their time at nursery. Parents and carers are encouraged to contribute by sharing photographs, comments, interests and special moments from home.
These contributions might include learning a new skill, enjoying a family experience, showing an interest in a particular subject or reaching an important milestone. Sharing this information helps us build a fuller understanding of your child and gives us opportunities to extend their interests at nursery.
In addition to everyday conversations and Famly updates, we keep families informed through progress reports and parent meetings. These provide an opportunity to discuss your child’s development in greater detail, celebrate what they have achieved and agree on ways to support their continued learning.
If either families or practitioners have questions or concerns about a child’s development, we encourage these to be discussed at the earliest opportunity. Working together allows us to provide timely and consistent support.
Our partnership extends beyond the nursery day. We send home simple, enjoyable activities that complement what they are exploring at nursery.
These activities are designed to encourage shared learning through play and everyday experiences—not to place pressure on children or families. They might include sharing a story, noticing numbers in the environment, exploring nature, practising self-care skills or talking about an upcoming holiday or event.
Families can share their child’s response through the Famly app, helping us connect their experiences at home with their learning at nursery.
Throughout the year, we create opportunities for families to share in nursery life and celebrate the children’s achievements.
Our annual Dragonflies Sports Day brings children and families together for an active and enjoyable occasion. Children in our Pre-School Room also take part in a Nativity Play, giving them an opportunity to build confidence, express themselves and enjoy a memorable experience with their friends.
Parents and carers are warmly encouraged to attend these special events. They are a wonderful way to celebrate the children, strengthen our nursery community and create happy memories together.
We want every family to feel welcomed, listened to and involved. Whether you would like to tell us about a change at home, share an achievement or discuss an aspect of your child’s care, our team is always happy to help.
Together, we can give your child the secure, consistent and encouraging start they need to flourish.
